You ever think about how much waste we create and how we can turn that frown upside down? I mean, just the other day, I was washing my hands at home—using a boring old soap dispenser—and it hit me: wouldn’t it be awesome to craft my very own DIY soap dispenser from recycled materials? It feels so good to create something unique, don’t you think? Plus, it’s like giving old stuff a second chance, like when I rescued that old Mason jar from the back of my cupboard. I could almost hear it cheer as I cleaned it up! Who knew being eco-friendly could also be so fun? Let’s get our hands a little messy and see what we can make together!
Items You’ll Need
- Empty plastic bottle
- Pump dispenser top
- Drill or sharp object (for making holes)
- Scissors
- Paint or markers (for decoration)
- Water and soap mixture (for filling dispenser)
- Labels (optional, for identifying contents)
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather Materials
First, I gather all my materials: an empty plastic bottle, a pump dispenser top, a drill (or any sharp object), scissors, some paint and markers to decorate, water and soap mixture, and optional labels.
Step 2: Prepare the Plastic Bottle
I rinse out the empty plastic bottle to make sure it’s clean. It's important because I want my soap dispenser to be safe and sanitary!
Step 3: Create the Hole
Next, I take my drill (or sharp object) and carefully make a hole in the cap of the plastic bottle. This hole needs to be just the right size for the pump dispenser top to fit snugly.
Step 4: Attach the Pump Dispenser
Once I’ve made the hole, I push the pump dispenser top through the cap of the bottle. It should sit tightly. If it’s wobbly, I might need to make the hole a bit larger.
Step 5: Fill with Soap Mixture
I mix together some soap and water in a bowl and then carefully pour it into the plastic bottle. I fill it up to about three-quarters full, leaving room for the pump to work.
Step 6: Secure the Cap
With the soap mixture inside, I screw the cap (with the pump) back onto the plastic bottle tightly to prevent any leaks.
Step 7: Decorate Your Dispenser
Now comes the fun part! I take my paint and markers and start decorating the outside of the bottle. I make it colorful and fun, adding some flowers or swirls to make it look lively.
Step 8: Label Your Dispenser
If I want, I grab a label and write down what’s inside the dispenser, like 'Foaming Soap' or 'Hand Wash'. This helps identify it and adds a nice touch!
Step 9: Test It Out!
Finally, it’s time for a test! I give the pump a few presses, and voilà! My DIY soap dispenser is ready to use! It’s functional and beautiful, all made from recycled materials.
